Coming from Southern California, I was very skeptical of trying Mexican food here, considering the prices were like the ones we found in Cali. I moved to FL almost a year ago and was craving Mexican. We found that Anita's was not only close but had great prices. We ordered a variety of things off the menu to really see if we'd go back again ~ shredded beef, carne asada and chicken tacos, chili relleno, cheese enchiladas, beans and rice. Everything was great! Authentic, quick and extremely fresh!

Growing up in Southern California, and spending much of my youth in Chicano neighborhoods, there was no shortage of good Mexican food, this was one of the main things I missed when I became a Floridian. Finding Anita's was a great joy. There's nothing fancy about it; a window-service-style unit in a cheap 70s strip mall. But the food is just what you'd expect from a similar locals establishment in SoCal where the clientele knows what carne asada should taste like.

I enjoy the food here as it is always fresh and seasoned to perfection. The service is super quick and the portions are huge. I have visited here dozens of time and always have a great meal... Very consistent over the years. Rob.

Anita's is a weekly pit stop for me and my husband. It's cheap and delicious, and really hits the spot when we're craving some good old Mexican comfort food. I always order something-carne asada (the plate, burrito, tacos), and my husband gets tortas. He says his favorite is the chorizo torta. I give Anita's 4 stars, however, because as I mentioned previously, it's cheap, meaning the food quality isn't super great. Not to say it isn't tasty, because it definitely is. Also, the waiting time to get your food is somewhat unpredictable. It seems like at any given time, they only have 1 or 2 cooks in the kitchen, so I guess you just have to get there at the right time. (One time we got our food within 5 minutes, one time we waited around 20 minutes). It's definitely worth trying, and if anything else, you know it's good when the cooks and many of the customers themselves are Mexican!

Hole in the wall restaurant. Live roach in dining area calmly swept up by employee. Food was not all that appetizing before or after that. Will not go back.

Incorrect info. Closes at 9 not 10. Wanted to try it, but they would take my order a couple minutes after 9. Oh well

Great little family owned hole in the wall restaurant. Food is fresh and inexpensive and quickly made. It be only been here twice so I don't have too much to say, but their enchiladas and quesadillas were amazing.

Anita's is the with out a doubt the best Mexican food in the west palm beach area. My 2 favorites are the chorizo and eggs breakfast burrito and their Tortas sandwiches. 7 different types all are great.

Hole in the wall Mexican place in a dingy strip mall. Zero ambiance and styrofoam plates. Dirt cheap prices but also cheap tasting ingredients and bland flavors. It's a true case of you get what you paid for. Hasta la vista, baby!

The guacamole was great, simple but very tasteful. Small place, not the most clean but the food is delicious. I took chicken chimichanga and my husband a burrito. I've been to many Mexican restaurants but this has become my favorite. Not expensive at all! You must try it.

Food is decent - but not worth going back :( From the outside this is our kind of place - we love finding hole-in-the-wall places that have to-die-for food. Sadly this place didn't meet our expectations. The tacos were good - the only ones traditionally made were the goat and tongue - the other types as well as most of the menu is Americanized Mexican. Topped with tomatoes, shredded cheese etc... Other than tacos we had the Menudo soup - it was okay - had a good base flavor but too much of the fatty parts added in. Although we are a bit biased, because no ones makes this dish better than the hubby's grandma! Also ordered the Chile Rellenos - so disappointed. Looks like they used shredded cheese instead of a mexican cheese and it was swimming in it. The sauce however, was excellent - had great flavor and heat! Overall the experience was okay - but with so many other mexican places to try and a couple already on our go-to list - this one doesn't make the cut.

Though it may seem a bit random and unassuming/sketchy from the outside, Anita's is a gem. Lots of simple tables, a counter where you order, menus displayed on the wall, and -- most importantly -- the salsa bar, which houses some of the best salsa I've had. Personally, I love the medium: just enough kick to not overwhelm the smokey flavor. As for the food, I ordered the fish tacos, which took a solid 10/15 minutes to arrive. Worth every minute. The fish was flavorful, fresh, and the tortilla was awesome too. Especially when highlighted by the salsa, some of the best fish tacos I've had.

I had a vegetarian burrito with a peach ice tea and chips and salsa. My husband had a #14 which is a cheese enchilada a crunchy beef taco. The ice tea tasted like fake peach drink. The burrito was full, full of guacamole, and the only reason I knew it was guac because I looked to see what the pasty substance was. It was green but had no flavor at all, none. My husband did not finish his meal. This is a low end, nothing fresh, that I can tell, tastes like it comes from a can at 2 cents a gallon. The chips were horrible as well. We threw them all away. We really wanted to like this place.

While running errands this weekend, my fiance and I had a hankering for good Mexican food in the area. We always like trying the local, hole-in-the-wall type establishments, and had high expectations based on the other Yelp reviews. We were sorely disappointed. The chips and guac came out like nachos, with the guac drizzled on top, instead of on the side with salsa. The guac appeared store-bought. and tasted bland. I had the cheese enchilada, which also had no flavor, and a beef burrito, which was mediocre. My fiance got an enchilada, which he didn't care for either. One redeeming quality was the generous portion sizes. We were hungry, so we ate it, but I know we will not be coming back for more.

So this is in a strip mall almost unseen from Okeechobee. It is about 2 blocks west of 95 on the South side of the street. The tortas carnitas are amazing! You can ask for no raw onion, or not. Great cheese enchiladas. You can eat in or take out. We take out at least five tortas every time. Great reheated in the microwave. It has zero ambiance. Great Dr. Pepper and I think they sell beer. If not, there is a liquor store in the same little mall. They speak English although I would repeat my order if you really want it right. Mostly Spanish people are smart enough to be enjoying the food. They might cater if you ask. Huge amounts of food are picked up around lunch time for the offices in the area.

this is one of West Palm Beach's hidden gems, the tacos and burritos are top quality, the staff is over the top friendly and as of yet have not tasted anything that is not delicious at this place.

This place is a hidden jewel in a strip mall. I've only been there once but the tacos were awesome! It's a no frills little place, but the food is hot and fresh and the owner was very friendly. I had five tacos when I planned to only have three: carnitas (fried pork), carne asada (roast beef), lengua (tongue), al pastor (marinated pork), and fried fish. Canitas and carne asada were my favorite but they were all excellent and I have already recommended this place to my co-workers. Can't wait to go back! Muchas gracias al dueño por ser tan amable!

I like Anita's. It's good, authentic homemade type food. It's just your typical hole in the wall place. I grew up on places like this. However, that is also the reason why I don't give it five stars. Honestly, the surrounding place is very sketchy with "drunks" hanging out at the quick stop. It's uncomfortable if you are not used to it. My best advice is to take your order to go if you don't like to be in that environment.

The chorizo tacos are a must! Ground beef enchilada was fantastic..However, I would suggest starting with the chorizo tacos first.

Looking for good, casual, Mexican and this place was close to the airport and had good reviews. There were 5 of us in the group and we all found it to be exceptionally mediocre. Really casual. Dirty tables. Slow food preparation and really blah food.

Stopped by for a quick dinner tonight. I got a carnitas (pork) taco, a carne asada (steak) burrito, and a large horchata - a pretty solid meal for $10. The taco was wonderful! The pork was moist, flavorful and had just the right amount of crisp. The burrito was really good, although the steak was a little bit chewy (otherwise I would have given 5 stars). The horchata was perfect - sweet but not too sweet. I'll definitely be back. Next time I'll probably get 3-4 tacos and try out a variety of meats. UPDATE (5/18/13) My wife's love of Tex-Mex (rather than California Mexican) has stopped me from coming back on the regular, but regardless she begs me to pick her up an horchata to go, at least once every other week. Sill, hands down, the best horchata in town!

Ok,...there's plenty of Mexican place's in West Palm, I've been living here for less than two weeks and I gotta tell you this place is on my fan list now. The prices are just right for any single ,meat eating, budget conscious guy looking for a mom and pop place. The service was fast, the staff nice and educated me in the variety of food they offered, the specials are awesomeeee and the food (still warm after my four mile trek home) phenomenal! Looking forward to going back again and again,..Gracias.

I was looking for fish tacos in the west Palm Beach area and stumbled upon Anita's. The fish tacos did not dissappoint. My wife ordered the carne asada and said it was also very good. And you cant beat the prices! There was a variety of self serve salsas to choose from ranging from mild to very hot. We tried the hot and very hot (like things spicy). They were both delicious. We also ordered the nachos and cheese. We were expecting melted cheese but it was just nacho chips with shredded cheese melted on top. Okay, but not worth the spend.

Anita's is by far my favorite lunch spot in the downtown WPB area, and one of the best cheapest places to eat in Palm Beach period. Don't be dissuaded by the location! First, the dining area and restaurant are always clean, and the cashier is always very attentive. I've never waited too long for food, and it comes out quick. The kitchen from the view of the front counter always looks organized and clean, which is a good sign. The food is traditional Mexican fare, including unique dishes such as Caldo Del Res(beef stew) and Menudo (tripe soup). Everything you can order taste delicious down to the refried beans and tacos. The tacos at Anita's have multiple fillings, including ground chorizo, fried fish, carne asada, and barbacoa. Everything is fresh and the salsas and hot sauces are made in-house. A place like this will never make you want to eat at Chipolte or Moe's again.

Coming from across the states to FL, let's just say this is a good finding on my list of to-go to restaurant for Mexican foods. It's a hole in the wall type of environment, but the food is delicious. I had carne asada taco, fish taco, horchata, and carne asada fries and i became a fan. I would recommend this place to anyone who's craving for Mexican foods.

We were looking for authentic Mexican, not TexMex.... And this was a good place to go. Great burritos, and everything else smelled and looked delicious. We will certainly go back and try more things.

Don't be fooled by the exterior, this place is a diamond in the rough. Love their enchiladas! My boyfriend has tried their breakfast burrito, carne asada plate and the beef burrito. He loved them all. Definitely a must if you love Mexican food.

I love this taco shop, and stop by often. This place looks like a hole in the wall in a shady looking strip mall, but don't let that fool you. The food is always delicious, ingredients are fresh, very authentic, food comes out quick, and its easy on the wallet. Try the Carne Asada burrito, or the Carnitas tacos and make sure you get one of the drinks- Horchata, Jamaica, or Tamarindo. Be aware Saturdays and Sunday mornings the place is usually packed because they serve fresh Menudo. If you are ever hungry for breakfast, they have awesome breakfast burritos too.

Great food, great prices, and authentic feel. You know it's good if most of the people eating there are latin. I've gotten the carnitas, asada, and chicken tacos and they've all been great. The Chimichanga and burritos are great, and the Machaca breakfast burrito will cure any hangover. I probably eat here 1-2 times a week. Great selection of homemade salsas, and all the food I see other people eating there looks awesome. Also took my vegetarian friends here and they loved it as well.

Very good food, generous portions, and wallet friendly. Carnitas are great. Fish is crispy and fresh fried. Had tacos w each of those fillings. Horchata is pretty sweet but I didn't have trouble finishing it! Lots of choices on the menu - I will definitely come back to try maybe the Asada nachos or the enchiladas!!! Shrimp cocktail and fajita plates look killer too...

Really delighted to find a Mexican place in West Palm that didn't break the bank. I love Mexican food and eat it several times a week, but don't really want to shell out $20 every time I go. Yelp led me to Anita's and I am glad it did. The restaurant is located sort of near Westchase (so be aware of your surroundings) but is in a plaza sort of near the highway. The place itself isn't very large but their menu offerings are pretty vast. Lots of tacos and different types of Mexican dishes. I ordered the fajitas. I really wanted just shrimp fajitas, but I guess they don't do that here? So I had to get shrimp and chicken fajitas. Weird. The fajitas were prepared with loads of flavor which came out pretty quickly. You are given tortillas and sides of rice and beans. No cheese though. The fresh salsas at this place are really delicious. They don't taste like they came out of a bottle and were really good to put on my fajitas! The service was fairly friendly but again when I asked why I could just have shrimp fajitas the woman working looked at me like I was crazy and gave no explanation other than they just "don't do that." Prices are pretty cheap. Would return to try out some tacos in the future and I would easily recommend Anita's to anyone in West Palm looking for good Mexican food that won't break the bank.

The takeout menus for Anita's boasts California-style Mexican food, and it does satisfy the craving. The food is pretty good and reminded me of the delicious indulgences of Southern California, but it's also not the most spectacular stuff I've had. The location is a fair drive from me, but I'd swing by again if I wanted some tacos and guac. There are a number of options on the menu, and the prices are quite reasonable.

Hole in the wall place that you can't find unless you're looking for it. The food is very good though.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
